Custom WordPress Development, From Page Builders to Plugins

I build and maintain WordPress websites with Breakdance, Elementor, Divi and custom themes, and I write custom plugins and WooCommerce stores when a site needs to do more than display pages. WordPress is my largest platform, with 171 case studies for workshops, trades, contractors, retailers and professional firms in Australia and the US.

What is included

  • Page builder websites: Breakdance, Elementor, Divi and WPBakery sites set up with global styles and reusable templates, so your team can edit pages without breaking the layout.
  • Custom and block themes: Hand-coded PHP themes and block themes for sites that need full control, such as JDI Construction and Kingsminster Ponte Vedra.
  • Custom plugin development: Plugins for business logic that should survive a redesign, like the ADU cost calculator I built for Golden State ADUs.
  • ACF and custom post types: Structured content for catalogs, floor plans, service areas and resource libraries, built with ACF and custom post types.
  • WooCommerce online stores: Online shops for parts, flowers, collectibles and workwear, including stores with customer accounts and thousands of live products.
  • Migrations and hosting moves: Moves between hosts, from Shopify to WordPress, and from aging setups onto a cleaner build, planned so content and URLs carry across.
  • Forms, CRM and call tracking: Gravity Forms, Contact Form 7, Calendly, CallRail, Zoho and Salesforce connected so every quote request reaches the right place.
  • Updates, backups and security: Ongoing care for the sites I build, including plugin updates, backups, security checks and content edits.

What does WordPress development with me include?

WordPress development with me covers the whole site, from structure and design through build, launch and ongoing care. I work in the page builder that suits the project or write a custom theme, then add plugins, WooCommerce or integrations where the business needs them.

Most projects include a mix of:

  • Site structure, with service, location and conversion pages planned up front
  • A build in Breakdance, Elementor, Divi, WPBakery or a custom PHP or block theme
  • Custom fields with ACF and custom post types for content that repeats
  • Custom plugins for calculators, finders, configurators and other logic
  • WooCommerce for online sales, with payments, shipping and customer accounts
  • Forms, booking, CRM connections and call tracking
  • Technical SEO and speed work with caching and Cloudflare
  • Hosting setup or migration, then updates, backups and security monitoring

Because I usually handle both the build and the care afterwards, the decisions made during development are ones I will still be living with a year later. That keeps shortcuts out of the codebase.

Who hires me for WordPress work?

Local service businesses make up most of my WordPress clients, along with contractors, retailers and professional firms. Automotive is the largest group, with 52 of my 171 WordPress case studies for mechanics, panel beaters, tyre shops, transmission specialists and truck repairers, most of them in Australia.

Beyond automotive, my WordPress work covers:

I also work with agencies. CJ Digital, a Melbourne web design and development studio, had me build its own site in WordPress with Breakdance, and I have worked as a developer for Kova and Unwired Web Solutions.

Breakdance, Elementor, Divi or a custom theme: which should you use?

The right choice depends on who will edit the site, how much custom logic it needs and how fast it must load. I have shipped sites in all of them, so the decision comes down to fit rather than habit.

Breakdance

My most used builder, with 124 builds, mostly for Australian workshops and trades. It produces light pages and gives editors a clean interface. When General Auto Electrics Melbourne needed a site that was easier to manage, I replaced its hand-built code with a lighter Breakdance build.

Elementor and Elementor Pro

Used on 21 projects, largely US contractor sites such as DreamLine Custom Cabinetry, Modern Construction Group and Fantastic Fence. A good fit when your team already knows Elementor or relies on its add-on ecosystem.

Divi and WPBakery

I build in Divi for sites like Copperfox Plumbing and Abrasive Wear Solutions, and in WPBakery on the Impreza theme for Golden Coast Construction & Restoration and Kitchen Search.

Custom themes

For full control over markup and speed, I write custom themes, as on JDI Construction and Kibuk Tile And Construction. Kingsminster Ponte Vedra runs on a custom block theme built for the WordPress editor.

When does a WordPress site need a custom plugin or theme?

A site needs custom code when a feature is part of how the business sells, not just how a page looks. Calculators, configurators, finders and booking logic belong in a plugin, so they keep working when the design changes.

Examples from my WordPress work:

  • Golden State ADUs has a custom ADU cost calculator plugin, a 91-model library and a step-by-step model configurator
  • JDI Construction runs on a custom theme with cost calculators, a room design visualizer and 210 local pages
  • Stuckey Tyres has an on-site search-by-size tyre finder inside a Breakdance site
  • Fantastic Fence gives visitors an instant price calculator next to online booking
  • KT Rents is a custom WordPress rental platform with REST API integrations and property management tools
  • America's Advantage Remodeling and Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control run on custom themes with custom plugins

A custom theme makes sense when a page builder would add weight you do not need, or when the design calls for markup a builder cannot produce cleanly. For most service businesses, a well-built page builder site with a small custom plugin is the better balance of cost and flexibility, and I will tell you which side of that line your project sits on.

Should you sell online with WooCommerce?

WooCommerce is the right choice when your store belongs inside a WordPress site you already rely on, or when you want full ownership of the code, data and server. My portfolio includes 12 WooCommerce stores, from niche shops to catalogs with thousands of products.

Some of the stores I have worked on:

  • Northern Beaches Pokemon, a trading card store with thousands of live products sold online and in-store at Dee Why
  • Taylor Made Memorabilia, an official sports memorabilia store with customer accounts
  • Robotics Repair, which sells robotic pool cleaner parts and Maytronics Dolphin kits alongside its repair service
  • ABC Diesels, a truck spare parts supplier in New South Wales built with Divi
  • Tranquil Blooms and Flower Delivery Wantirna, which deliver flowers in Melbourne and across Victoria
  • Dewars Engines, an engine machining specialist with an online parts shop

WooCommerce asks more of you on maintenance, because hosting, updates and security sit with you rather than the platform. If you would rather hand that off and your products are straightforward, Shopify may suit you better, and I build there too. The decision depends on how you sell and who looks after the store.

How do WordPress migrations and rebuilds work?

A WordPress migration moves a site to new hosting, a new platform or a cleaner build while protecting its content, URLs and lead forms. IVE Data-Driven, a corporate WordPress and Elementor site, is one example where the work centred on maintenance and a hosting migration, and my WordPress work also covers Shopify to WordPress moves and product importation.

The process I follow:

  • Full backup of files and database before anything changes
  • Inventory of pages, posts, media, forms, redirects and plugins
  • A staging copy on the new host or new build, tested before DNS moves
  • A redirect map for any URL that changes, so links and search history carry over
  • Form, email and tracking tests after the switch
  • A check of Search Console and the sitemap in the days after launch

Rebuilds follow the same discipline. When an old theme or a custom-coded setup has become slow or hard to edit, I rebuild it on a lighter structure and carry the content across. Hosting work spans cPanel, Cloudflare, AWS, Docker and Azure, and when a business outgrows WordPress for ecommerce, I move it to Shopify, as I did for Real Mad Honey.

How long does a WordPress website project take, and what happens when?

The timeline depends on scope: a single landing page is a much shorter job than a contractor site with dozens of city pages or a WooCommerce store with a large catalog. Once your requirements are clear, you get a written timeline with milestones before work begins and regular progress updates throughout.

A typical WordPress project moves through four stages:

  • Plan: we agree on goals, pages, features, platform and a fixed price
  • Design: I structure templates, page sections and custom fields around how buyers decide
  • Develop: I build on a staging site, connect forms, booking and tracking, and send updates for review
  • Optimize: I tune speed, SEO and mobile layouts, then launch and watch the first days live

When a site needs many location pages, I get the template approved first and then roll it out, so feedback is given once rather than page by page. Golden Coast Construction & Restoration, with 93 city restoration pages, is the kind of site where that approach matters, because a change to one template reaches every page at once.

What affects the cost of a WordPress website?

Scope sets the price, so every WordPress project is quoted after a free audit or a short call rather than from a price list. When you fill in my contact form, you can pick a budget from under $499 through $500-$999, $1,000-$1,999 and $2,000-$2,999, or choose "Let's Discuss", and you get a fixed quote with deliverables once we agree on scope.

The factors that move a WordPress quote most:

  • Number of unique templates, not just pages, since city pages often share one template
  • A page builder site versus a custom theme or block theme
  • Custom plugins, calculators or configurators
  • WooCommerce catalog size, product variations and shipping rules
  • Integrations with CRMs such as Salesforce or Zoho, booking tools and call tracking
  • Migration from another host or platform, including content clean-up
  • Premium plugin licenses such as Elementor Pro, Gravity Forms or Rank Math Pro

Ongoing maintenance is a separate monthly plan, not bundled into the build. A business website generally costs far less than a custom Shopify store or web app, so the main question is how much custom logic your site needs.

How do you measure a WordPress site after launch?

A site is working when it produces the actions it was built for, so I set up tracking for calls, form submissions and bookings before launch. Without that, there is no clear way to judge a redesign or a new page.

The measurement setup usually includes:

  • Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager for events such as form submits and button clicks
  • CallRail call tracking for businesses that sell over the phone, as on America's Dream HomeWorks and DreamLine Custom Cabinetry
  • Google Site Kit to bring Analytics and Search Console data into the WordPress dashboard
  • Core Web Vitals checks for load speed, responsiveness and layout stability
  • Semrush and Search Console reports for rankings, clicks and indexed pages

I compare these numbers against the goals agreed at the start, such as more quote requests from a service area or more sales from a product category. I do not quote expected ranking positions or lead numbers up front, because those depend on competition and your market as much as on the build. What I control is the quality of the build and how clearly it is measured.

Is a WordPress site ready for Google and AI search?

Yes. Search groundwork goes into every WordPress build I ship, covering heading hierarchy, meta titles and descriptions, schema markup, an XML sitemap, Core Web Vitals and layouts that start from mobile. I manage this with tools such as Rank Math, and local service sites get dedicated service and city pages, such as the 51 city pages on Inline Security Fence and the 57 service area pages on Kibuk Tile And Construction.

AI search adds a few requirements on top of classic SEO:

  • Allow AI search crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot in robots.txt and CDN rules
  • Add accurate JSON-LD for the business, its services and FAQs
  • Write answer-first content with specific local detail, real services and clear prices where you publish them
  • Keep the business name, address and phone consistent across the site and directories
  • Use semantic, accessible HTML so browser agents can read pages and fill in forms

WordPress 7.0 added a provider-agnostic AI Client and a Connectors screen for API keys, which opens the door to AI features inside the CMS itself. Local SEO, content and AI search optimization for ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews are available as ongoing services after launch.

Who owns the site, and what happens after launch?

You own the site. It runs on hosting in your name or a host you choose, you hold the administrator login, and the custom themes and plugins I write are delivered as part of the site rather than locked behind a license only I control. Premium plugin licenses are best held in your business name, so renewals never depend on me.

After launch, you can manage the site yourself or keep me on a monthly maintenance plan. Many of my WordPress clients choose the second option, and some sites I built in earlier years, such as 191 Automotive in Moorabbin and Abrasive Wear Solutions, are still in my care.

Maintenance covers:

  • WordPress core, theme and plugin updates, with complex plugins tested on staging first
  • Off-site backups that are tested, not just scheduled
  • Security hardening, including fewer plugins, least-privilege accounts and two-factor login
  • Uptime checks and speed fixes
  • Content changes, new pages and seasonal offers

Plugins accounted for 91% of new WordPress vulnerabilities in 2025, so a steady update routine matters more than any single security plugin.

Can a WordPress developer in the Philippines support my business?

Yes. I work remotely from Botolan, Zambales, in the Philippines on UTC+8, and my WordPress clients are spread across Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom. From the Philippines I also look after AJMG Ltd, a consultancy site for a UK flex office specialist.

How the time difference plays out:

  • Australian clients share their whole business day with me, which suits live edits and launch days
  • US clients send requests in their afternoon and find progress waiting the next morning
  • UK and European clients get the same overnight rhythm, with written updates at each milestone

Communication runs in writing first, with calls booked in an overlap window when a decision needs a conversation. You see work on a staging site before it goes live, so nothing reaches your customers without your sign-off.

With more than 8 years of experience and 215 case studies, 171 of them on WordPress, I have run remote projects for workshops in Launceston, contractors in Sacramento and a school in Florida.

How the work runs

  1. Scope and quote: We agree on pages, features, builder or theme and a fixed price, with a written timeline before work begins.
  2. Structure: I map templates, custom fields and reusable sections so content stays consistent as the site grows.
  3. Staging build: I develop on a staging copy, connect forms, booking and tracking, and share progress for your review.
  4. Launch and care: I go live, check speed and SEO, then keep the site updated and backed up on a monthly plan if you want.

WordPress Development questions

Which page builder do you recommend for WordPress?

It depends on who edits the site. I have used Breakdance on 124 builds because it stays light and easy for editors, Elementor when a team already knows it, and a custom theme when speed or unusual layouts matter most. I recommend one after seeing your content and team.

Can you take over a WordPress site someone else built?

Yes. The first step is always an audit, which tells you what state the site is in and what I would fix first. I then update, secure and clean up the site, or recommend a rebuild if the foundation is not worth keeping.

Do you build custom WordPress plugins?

Yes. I write custom plugins when a feature carries business logic, such as the ADU cost calculator for Golden State ADUs. Keeping that logic in a plugin means it survives a theme change or redesign.

Can WordPress run my online store?

Yes, through WooCommerce. My portfolio includes 12 WooCommerce stores, among them Northern Beaches Pokemon with thousands of live products. If you would rather not manage hosting and updates, I can build the store on Shopify instead.

How long does a WordPress website take to build?

It depends on scope, especially the number of templates, custom features and location pages. Once scope is set, I send a milestone schedule and keep you updated in writing as each stage is finished.

Do you handle WordPress hosting migrations?

Yes. IVE Data-Driven is one WordPress site where my work included a hosting migration. I move sites with a full backup, a tested staging copy and a redirect plan, across cPanel hosts, Cloudflare, AWS, Docker and Azure.

How much does a WordPress website cost?

I quote each WordPress project after a free audit or a short call. The contact form budget choices range from under $499 to $2,000-$2,999, plus "Let's Discuss", and maintenance is priced separately as a monthly plan.
