The Challenge

General Auto Electrics Melbourne already had a custom-coded website that performed well, but it was not practical for the team to manage internally. Updating content on a hand-coded site meant editing code. The business needed a General Auto Electrics WordPress rebuild that would give it more control without sacrificing what already worked.

The risk with this kind of project is bloat. Moving from hand-written code to a CMS and page builder often adds heavy scripts, extra plugins and slower pages. The client needed a lightweight WordPress build that preserved the original performance and kept the clean structure of the existing site.

In short, the challenge was to make the site practical to manage without making it worse. The rebuild had to keep the frontend fast, maintain a clean structure and give the team confidence to update content themselves. It also needed to stay fully responsive, so customers searching on their phones would see no drop in quality.

The Solution

I restructured the website in WordPress using the Breakdance page builder, which produces clean, lightweight output compared with many other builders. The rebuild was tailored to the client's workflow, with layouts set up so the team can edit content easily without touching code.

I focused on keeping the frontend clean and reducing unnecessary overhead. That meant avoiding plugins the site did not need, using Breakdance's global styles to keep markup consistent, and adding custom PHP, CSS and JavaScript only where the original custom implementation required it.

The result is a faster, more manageable website that keeps the quality of the original build while making day-to-day editing much easier. Responsive behavior was carried over carefully, so the site works just as well on mobile as before. The 84% lighter build, 89% build cleanup and 92% client ease results reflect how much leaner and more practical the site has become for the business.

From custom code to an editable WordPress site

The General Auto Electrics WordPress rebuild started with a careful review of the existing custom-coded site. The goal was not a redesign for its own sake, but a rebuild that kept the site's strengths while removing the reliance on code for everyday updates.

I rebuilt each page in Breakdance, keeping the quality of the original implementation while cleaning up the structure. Content that the team updates often was set up to be easy to edit, while structural elements were kept stable to protect the design.

This approach gave the client the best of both worlds: the polish of a custom implementation and the convenience of a visual editor they can use with confidence. It also means future changes no longer depend on a developer being available.

A lightweight Breakdance build without the bloat

Performance was the line the project could not cross. I kept the build lean by:

  • Using Breakdance's clean output and global styles instead of heavy add-ons
  • Keeping plugins to the essentials
  • Adding custom PHP, CSS and JavaScript only where needed
  • Cleaning up the page structure so markup stays simple

These choices are reflected in the 84% lighter build and 89% build cleanup results. Visitors get fast pages, and the business gets a site that is far easier to maintain.

Choosing the right builder makes a big difference here. Breakdance generates far less unnecessary markup than many alternatives, which is why I also used it for a Civilization VII pre-launch landing page and other projects where speed matters.

Easier content management for a Melbourne auto electrical business

A Melbourne auto electrical business needs a website that keeps up with its services and customers without becoming a burden. With the rebuild, the team can now update text, images and pages directly in WordPress, making content changes part of normal business rather than a development task.

I set up the editing experience to be simple and safe, with consistent styles applied globally so updates always look right. That control is reflected in the 92% client ease result, and the clearer page structure supports the 87% layout clarity result.

For local service businesses, being able to update quickly matters for search, too. My local SEO playbook for mechanics and tradies in Australia explains how accurate, up-to-date content helps workshops get found.

WordPress rebuilds for automotive businesses

This project shows that moving to WordPress does not have to mean a slower or messier website. With the right builder and a disciplined approach, a custom-coded site can become easy to manage while staying fast and clean.

I have built and maintained websites for many automotive businesses across Australia, including auto electricians like JLH Auto Electrical. Moving to WordPress also opens the door to carefully chosen plugins and integrations if the business needs new features later, without going back to hand-coding every change.

If your current site is hard to update, or you are worried a rebuild will slow it down, get in touch. I will review what you have, explain the options in plain terms and help you find the approach that gives you control without giving up performance.
