The Challenge
Dewar's Performance Engines is a family-owned engine machining and rebuild workshop in Baranduda, Victoria, with over 40 years of expertise and roots in speedway and national drifting. Its customers are enthusiasts, racers and workshops who judge a machinist on precision. The Dewars Engines WooCommerce site had to carry that pride: "We don't just machine engines, we revive them."
It also had to do two jobs at once. The service side needed to present engine reconditioning, automotive machining, balancing, dyno services and injector pump reconditioning with technical credibility. The retail side needed an online shop for parts and accessories that sits naturally alongside the workshop rather than feeling like a separate business bolted on, all on one site that loads quickly and stays secure while taking payments.
The Solution
I built the site on WordPress with Breakdance and WooCommerce. The Our Services menu leads to five capability pages: Injector Pump Reconditioning, Engine Reconditioning, Automotive Balancing and Machining, Dyno Services and Reconditioned Engines. The homepage hero, "Precision Machining for Unmatched Performance", is followed by three entry points: engine reconditioning, automotive machining and shop online.
A What We Do section lists the workshop's full capability, from block boring and honing to Sunnen pin honing and camshaft regrinding, and a feature section presents a signature 302 Ford Windsor rebuild package. The WooCommerce shop is organised into categories such as AN fittings, gaskets, intercoolers, oil filters, water pumps, balancers and apparel, with a header cart and product search. Customer reviews and contact details round out the homepage.
As developer and site manager, I keep it all machined to tolerance: maintained, secured and balanced.
Dewar's Performance Engines: machining and rebuilds from Baranduda
Dewar's is a proud family-owned business based in Baranduda, Victoria, and its story spans more than 40 years. What started as a love of machinery and motorsport grew into a full-service performance engine workshop covering precision machining, dyno testing, tuning and high-performance rebuilds.
The About page leans into what makes Dewar's different: the team are racers at heart. They have competed in everything from regional speedway to national drifting series, and those lessons shape the craftsmanship in the workshop. That story matters to the audience. Whether a visitor is restoring a classic, building a track car or wants a smoother daily driver, they want a machinist who understands what the engine will be asked to do. The homepage carries the same message in a single line, inviting visitors to bring their engine back to life or take it to the next level.
Service pages for engine reconditioning, machining, balancing and dyno work
Each core service has a dedicated page under Our Services, and the homepage What We Do section lists the specific capabilities serious customers look for:
- Engine block boring and honing, cylinder head reconditioning and crankshaft regrinding
- Engine dyno testing and tuning, plus hub dyno solutions
- Engine and component balancing, camshaft regrinding and cam and crank linishing
- Sunnen pin honing from 16 to 100mm and custom tail shaft modifications
- Industrial chemical cleaning, glass bead finishing and distributor performance analysis
Listing capabilities in this much detail is deliberate. Engine builders and workshops searching for a specific machining service want to see it named, and terms like these are exactly what they type into search. It signals technical credibility far more effectively than generic phrases about quality and experience.
Merchandising a signature build: the 302 Ford Windsor package
Most machining work is quoted job by job, but Dewar's offers a packaged rebuild that the site presents like a product. The "Give Your Classic New Life" section features a 302 Ford Windsor rebuild from $18,000, rated at approximately 340hp at 6000rpm.
The copy explains what makes it worth the money: each engine is fully stripped, machined and rebuilt in-house using quality components including Hypatec pistons, DRP alloy heads, aluminium roller rockers, a hydraulic cam with roller lifters, a DRP intake manifold and ARP hardware. For an enthusiast, that parts list is the selling point, and naming it builds the kind of trust a vague performance package never could. It also gives the homepage a clear, high-value call to action for classic car owners alongside the general service enquiries.
A WooCommerce shop for engine parts and accessories
The shop sits alongside the services rather than competing with them. A Shop link in the main navigation and a Shop Online entry point on the homepage lead to WooCommerce categories covering accessories, adaptors, AN fittings, apparel, balancers, clamps, gaskets, intercoolers, oil filters, water pumps and surplus stock. A cart and product search stay in the header so repeat buyers can order quickly.
Keeping the shop on the same WordPress site as the services has practical benefits. Customers who come in for a machining enquiry discover the parts range, and parts buyers learn about the workshop. It also means one site to maintain, secure and optimise rather than two. If you are weighing up platforms for a similar setup, my comparison of Shopify and WordPress WooCommerce covers the trade-offs.
Technical SEO and upkeep for the Dewars Engines WooCommerce site
An online shop with a checkout needs disciplined maintenance. As developer and site manager, I keep WordPress, WooCommerce, Breakdance and plugins updated and tested, harden security, run regular backups and monitor the site 24/7. That has delivered a 99.9% uptime record, zero security incidents and every page loading clean. Semrush helps me track how service pages perform for specific machining and rebuild terms, and technical SEO checks keep the shop's category structure tidy.
For another engine specialist, see the Engines X case study. If you run a performance workshop with parts to sell, get in touch to talk about a site that does both.
