The Challenge

Dandenong Auto Parts has supplied Melbourne's mechanics, workshops, enthusiasts and everyday drivers since 1979, from a counter at 39 Plunkett Road where nearly 50 years of parts knowledge lives. The Dandenong Auto Parts WordPress website had to turn that counter into something people could use online, because fifty years of expertise is worthless if a customer cannot find the part.

The range is broad: cooling and heating, clutches, drivetrain bearings, electrical, engine, fuel systems, filters, oils, brakes, ignition, suspension, steering, strut mounts, body parts and paint supplies, plus a full tools section. It also serves two very different buyers, trade professionals who know exactly what they want and DIY drivers who need guidance.

The site had to organise all of that clearly for both audiences while carrying the expert-advice reputation that keeps mechanics coming back.

The Solution

I built a range-first structure on WordPress. The main navigation opens straight into Car Parts, with a dropdown listing every category, and a separate Tools section covers hand tools, tool kits, battery power tools, and lifting equipment and jacks. A visitor can reach the right category from any page in a couple of clicks.

The homepage leads with "Trusted Auto Parts Specialists Since 1979" and three proof points: nearly 50 years of experience, premium brands and suppliers, and expert product advice. Each parts category gets a short plain-English description of what is stocked, so a DIY customer knows they are in the right place and a mechanic can confirm range at a glance.

The About page tells the family story, with the current owner having grown up helping in the business, and a "Need Parts Fast?" call to action closes the homepage with phone, address and trading hours. As Developer and Site Manager, I keep it all maintained, secured and always open at the counter.

A parts catalogue structure for Melbourne mechanics and DIY drivers

The core job of the Dandenong Auto Parts WordPress website is helping people find the right category fast. I mirrored the way the counter staff think about stock, by system rather than by brand, so the menu reads like a workshop parts list:

  • Engine, cooling, fuel, ignition and electrical parts
  • Brakes, clutches, suspension, steering and strut mounts
  • Filters, oils and lubricants, and caps
  • Body parts and paint supplies for repair and restoration work

Each category description names the actual components, such as radiators, water pumps, clutch kits, brake pads, rotors and ignition coils. That gives searchers and Google clear signals about what the store carries, without the overhead of a full online shop.

Trust signals from nearly 50 years at the Dandenong counter

A parts store lives and dies on advice. Mechanics come back to Dandenong Auto Parts because the team can identify the right part first time, and the site needed to say so without sounding like every other supplier.

The homepage and About page carry that message through specifics: established in 1979, a family legacy now run by an owner who learned the trade after school in the store, and a customer base that stretches from Keysborough, Cranbourne and Clayton across greater Melbourne and interstate. Customer reviews sit on the homepage, and the copy consistently speaks to both trade professionals and DIY enthusiasts so neither feels like an afterthought.

Lightweight build and local SEO for Dandenong auto parts searches

Parts searches are often urgent. A mechanic with a car on the hoist wants to know quickly whether the part is likely in stock nearby. I kept the build lightweight so pages load fast on a phone in a workshop, with clean layouts and optimised imagery rather than heavy sliders.

For search, the category structure does a lot of the work. Pages target real phrases like brake parts, clutch kits and workshop tools alongside Dandenong and Melbourne, while trading hours, phone and the Plunkett Road address stay consistent everywhere. The same principles I outline in my guide to staying visible in Google AI Mode apply here: clear, specific answers about what a local business offers.

Design that works on the shop floor and on the phone

Many visitors check the site on a phone, often from a workbench or the driveway. I designed the layout mobile-first, with a contact panel holding the Plunkett Road address, phone number, email and trading hours, so customers can confirm the store is open before they drive over. The trading hours are unusual, Tuesday to Friday plus Saturday morning, which made keeping them visible everywhere essential.

The visual design is clean and practical, with clear category headings and short descriptions rather than walls of text. A Read More link on the tools section and the closing Need Parts Fast? call to action keep the next step obvious, whether the visitor is a mechanic or a weekend DIYer.

Site management for a family auto parts business

My role here is Developer and Site Manager, so the work continues well past launch. I handle WordPress updates, security, backups, uptime monitoring and content changes as the range evolves. The site holds a 99.9% uptime record with zero security incidents, monitored 24/7, and every page loads clean.

For a business that has kept its doors open for nearly half a century, the website has to be just as dependable. If you run a parts or trade supply business, my work for Brake and Clutch Warehouse is another example of the same approach.
