Custom Web Development for Apps, Dashboards and APIs

I build custom web applications, dashboards, admin and reporting systems, and the APIs and integrations that connect them to the tools a business already uses. When a project needs to run outside the browser, I also build desktop and mobile apps with Electron and Swift.

What is included

  • Custom web applications: Browser-based systems built around your workflow, from ordering and voting platforms to rental tools and analytics products.
  • Dashboards and reporting: Admin panels and reports that show the figures your team needs, with role-based access so each person sees the right data.
  • Admin and back-office systems: Role-based controls, inventory, records and audit trails in one place instead of spreadsheets and email threads.
  • APIs and integrations: REST APIs and connections to Shopify, Salesforce, Zoho, Klaviyo, Brevo, Meta and other services, so data moves between systems without copying by hand.
  • AI features and LLM integration: Chat, search and automation built on Claude, GPT and Gemini, grounded in your own content and data.
  • Cross-platform desktop and mobile apps: Electron apps for macOS, Windows and Linux, and native Swift for iPhone where the platform calls for it.
  • Custom WordPress and Shopify features: Calculators, configurators, custom plugins and Storefront API layers when an off-the-shelf plugin or app does not fit.
  • Deployment and hosting: Apps deployed on AWS, Azure, Cloudflare, Docker or cPanel hosting, with Git version control throughout.

What is custom web development?

Custom web development means building software around how your business works, instead of bending your business around a template or a stack of plugins. It covers web applications, dashboards, admin and reporting systems, APIs and integrations, and the logic that ties them together.

Most businesses do not need it for their main website. WordPress or Shopify handles marketing pages and standard ecommerce well. Custom work becomes the right choice when you have a process no plugin supports, data spread across systems that should talk to each other, or a tool your team uses every day that is slow, manual or held together with spreadsheets.

In my portfolio, 33 case studies are tagged Custom Development. They range from full applications, such as three Laravel platforms with admin and reporting systems, to custom features inside existing sites, such as the ADU cost calculator and step-by-step model configurator I built for Golden State ADUs, or the search-by-size tyre finder on Stuckey Tyres.

I work across React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, PHP, Laravel, Python and Flask, with MySQL and PostgreSQL for data, and I have been building for clients for more than eight years.

What kinds of custom applications have you built?

I have built ordering, voting, sports analytics, rental and AI chat platforms, each shaped around one client's workflow. Examples from my case studies and recent builds:

  • Ordering System: a Laravel and MySQL ordering platform with role-based admin controls, inventory integration and reporting tailored to the client's workflow
  • E-Voting System: a Laravel application for secure ballot management, voter eligibility control and auditable result tracking
  • SportsData: a sports insights platform built with Laravel and React, with an admin system, reporting and a data dashboard
  • KT Rents: a custom WordPress rental platform with REST API integrations and tools for property management, rental workflows and nationwide listings
  • Real Mad Honey AI chatbot: a multi-store AI sales and support chat platform for Shopify stores and websites, built with Next.js, PostgreSQL with pgvector, a Shopify app and Claude with a Gemini fallback

Each of these started from a specific job the client needed done, and the features were scoped from that job rather than from a template. That is the main difference between custom development and installing a product: the system fits the process, so the people using it do not have to invent workarounds.

How do you build dashboards, admin and reporting systems?

I build them around the decisions people make with the data. A dashboard is only useful if it answers the questions your team asks every day, so planning starts with who logs in, what each role needs to see and what each role is allowed to change.

Access and roles

Role-based access is standard in this kind of system. The Ordering System I built in Laravel separates admin controls by role, and the E-Voting System controls voter eligibility so only the right people can take part.

Data and reports

Reports read from the same database the application writes to, so the figures reflect what actually happened. In SportsData, Laravel handles the data and admin side while React presents the insights in a clearer, more interactive front end. The E-Voting System keeps auditable result tracking, so results can be checked after the fact.

The admin side of AI tools

The AI chatbot platform I built for Real Mad Honey has its own dashboard. It hands conversations to a human with the full transcript and flags questions the bot could not answer, so the team can correct them and improve later answers.

Interfaces are built in React, or in Blade templates on Laravel, styled with Tailwind CSS where it fits.

Which technologies do you use for custom web apps?

I choose the stack based on what the application needs to do and who will maintain it later. My main tools:

  • Frontend: React, Next.js, TypeScript, Vue.js, Tailwind CSS and SASS, with GSAP for animation
  • Backend: Node.js, PHP with Laravel, and Python with Flask
  • Data: MySQL and PostgreSQL, including pgvector for AI search
  • Infrastructure: Docker, Cloudflare and Cloudflare Workers, AWS, Azure and cPanel hosting, with Git for version control
  • Desktop and mobile: Electron, Swift with SwiftUI, and Kotlin with Jetpack Compose

Laravel suits data-heavy business systems with admin panels, permissions and reports, which is why my ordering, voting and sports analytics platforms run on it. Next.js suits applications that need fast server-rendered pages, good SEO and a modern React front end, which is why the Real Mad Honey chatbot platform uses it. Flask is a light option for Python services, data processing and AI tooling that sit behind a larger app.

If you already have a codebase, I work within it rather than rewriting for the sake of it. A rewrite is only worth it when the existing code costs more to keep alive than to replace.

Can you connect my website to other systems with APIs?

Yes. Integrations are a large part of my custom work: connecting a website or app to a CRM, an ecommerce platform, an email or SMS tool, or an AI model, so data flows without manual copying.

Integrations I have built include:

  • Salesforce CRM with WordPress and Elementor for Sourcefit, hosted on Azure
  • Zoho CRM web forms and Zoho SalesIQ on the Kitchen Search website
  • A Cloudflare and Shopify Storefront API layer for Car Audio Garage and Musway USA, powering app-free back-in-stock alerts by email and SMS through Klaviyo and Brevo
  • Background AI agents that turn manufacturer data into metafield-ready Shopify listings for Car Audio Garage's 900+ product catalogue
  • Instagram comment-to-DM automation for Real Mad Honey on the official Meta Instagram APIs, built with Node.js and PostgreSQL
  • REST API integrations on KT Rents and Inline Security Fence

Good integrations plan for failure. APIs go down, rate limits get hit and data arrives in odd formats, so I validate incoming data at every boundary, log what happens and make sure a broken connection does not take the rest of the site down with it.

Do you build desktop and mobile apps?

Yes. When a tool needs to run outside the browser, I build cross-platform apps with Electron for macOS, Windows and Linux, Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android, sharing as much logic as possible between them.

My clearest example is Musix, a free, open-source YouTube Music player with a built-in ad blocker that I created. It runs on Ubuntu, Windows, macOS, Android with Android Auto, and iPhone with CarPlay. One shared TypeScript bridge drives native apps built in Electron, Kotlin with Jetpack Compose, and Swift with SwiftUI.

The main lesson from Musix is to share the engine and the data, not the interface. Each platform gets a shell that feels native to it, while the core logic is written and tested once. The project's stack includes esbuild, Vitest, Playwright and GitHub Actions.

For business software, the same approach means a desktop tool for your office and a mobile app for staff in the field can share one backend and one set of business rules. Python and Flask fit here too, for local services and data processing that sit behind the app.

How does a custom development project run?

A custom project runs in four stages: plan, design, develop and optimize. The difference from a standard website is how much time goes into planning, because every feature in a custom system has to be built, tested and maintained.

Planning defines the scope, the users and their roles, the data, the integrations and what done looks like. You get a written scope and a timeline with milestones before development starts. Design then maps screens and flows around usability, so the system makes sense to the people who use it every day.

Development happens in small, reviewable pieces. I use AI coding tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex and Cursor to move faster, inside a strict workflow: a written brief with a definition of done, one small task per branch, no production credentials given to AI tools, automated checks for linting, types, unit and end-to-end tests, and human review of every change. Payments, authentication, pricing logic and live data migrations are written or reviewed line by line by me.

The final stage tunes performance, security and usability before launch, so the system is ready for real use from the first day your team logs in.

How long does a custom web app take and what affects the cost?

Timelines depend on scope, and I set them once the requirements, users and integrations are clear. A focused internal tool or a single integration is a far smaller job than a multi-role platform with reporting, payments and several connected services. Either way, you get a written timeline with milestones before work starts and regular progress updates during the build.

The factors that drive cost:

  • The number of user roles and screens
  • How many systems need to be integrated, and how well their APIs are documented
  • Data migration from spreadsheets or an old system
  • Security and compliance needs, such as handling personal data or votes
  • Whether the app needs desktop or mobile versions as well as the web
  • Hosting, monitoring and maintenance after launch

I do not list prices for custom work, because the range is too wide to be meaningful. Projects are quoted after a short call or a free audit of your current setup, and you get a fixed quote with a list of deliverables. If it helps you plan, the enquiry form offers budget brackets from under $499 to $2,000-$2,999, as well as "Let's discuss" for larger builds.

Will a custom web app be fast, secure and ready for search?

Yes, those qualities are built in rather than added later. For public-facing apps I use server-rendered pages in Next.js, so search engines and AI crawlers receive real HTML. Each page gets its own title and description, every indexable page has a canonical URL, structured data is rendered as JSON-LD, and the sitemap is generated from the same source as the routes.

The same clean HTML and structured data that help Google also help ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini read an app's public pages. Where it makes sense, an llms.txt file summarises the product for AI crawlers.

Security covers validation of every input, role-based access, careful authentication, secrets kept out of the code and dependencies kept up to date. For performance, I watch Core Web Vitals on public pages and keep heavy work off the main thread so the interface responds quickly to clicks and taps. Cloudflare Workers can run small, latency-sensitive tasks such as webhooks or API aggregation close to the user.

Internal tools such as admin dashboards do not need SEO, but they still need speed and security, especially when they hold customer, order or voting data.

Who owns the code for a custom project?

In general terms, custom work is built for your business, and the ownership terms are written into the agreement before development starts. I recommend that the code repository, hosting, domain and third-party accounts such as API keys and cloud services are set up under your business, with me given access as the developer.

That matters more for custom software than for a standard website. If the code lives only on a developer's machine or personal account, you depend on that person for every change. Keeping the repository and infrastructure in your name means another developer can pick up the work if they ever need to.

Open-source frameworks such as React, Laravel and Next.js keep their own licences, and services such as Shopify, Salesforce or an AI model provider stay under their own terms. I list which external services a project depends on, so you know what you are paying for and what you control.

Musix is a project I chose to publish as open source. That is the owner's decision to make, and client code stays private unless you decide otherwise.

Can you work on a custom project remotely across time zones?

Yes. I work from Botolan, Zambales, in the Philippines on UTC+8, with clients across the US, the UK, Europe and Australia. Custom development suits remote work well, because the work lives in a shared repository, a staging environment and written specs.

For US and European clients, the time difference works like an overnight shift: you review a build or leave feedback at the end of your day and find changes and a written update in the morning. Australian clients share most of my working day, which suits live calls during planning and testing.

To keep a distributed project clear, I rely on a written scope, small reviewable changes and a staging site you can test whenever suits you. Questions that block progress are raised early and in writing, so the time difference does not turn into a delay.

I have worked this way for years as a full-stack developer with companies including CJ Digital, Kova, RIARD Enterprise Solutions, Web Medic and Unwired Web Solutions, and on custom builds for US businesses such as Car Audio Garage in Temecula and Musway USA in Murrieta, California.

How the work runs

  1. Plan: I define the users, roles, data, integrations and scope, and we agree on a written timeline with milestones.
  2. Design: I map screens and flows around how your team works, so the system is clear to use from the start.
  3. Develop: I build in small, reviewed pieces with automated tests and share progress on a staging site.
  4. Optimize: I tune performance, security and SEO where it applies, then launch and support the system.

Custom Web Development questions

Should I build a custom app or use an existing platform?

Use an existing platform when it covers most of what you need, because it is cheaper to run and maintain. Build custom when your process is what sets you apart, when tools need to share data that off-the-shelf products keep separate, or when plugin workarounds cost more than building it properly. I will tell you which side of that line your project sits on.

Do you use AI to write the code?

Yes, I use AI coding tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex and Cursor every day to prototype and build faster. I keep control of architecture, security and code review, and sensitive areas like payments, authentication and data migrations are written or checked line by line.

Can you add features to an existing Laravel, React or Next.js app?

Yes. I start with a review of the codebase, follow the conventions already in place and make changes in small steps. I only suggest rebuilding when patching the old code would be the more expensive path.

Can you add AI chat or automation to my system?

Yes. I build AI features with Claude, GPT and Gemini, such as the multi-store sales and support chatbot for Real Mad Honey, which crawled one store's 417 pages into 1,658 knowledge chunks. AI chatbots and automation also have their own service page on this site.

Do you build mobile apps for iPhone and Android?

Yes. I build cross-platform apps with Electron for desktop, Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android, sharing core logic between them. Musix, my open-source music player, runs on Ubuntu, Windows, macOS, Android and iPhone from one shared TypeScript bridge.

How much does custom web development cost?

It depends on scope, roles, integrations and data, so I quote after a short call or a free audit of your current setup. You get a fixed quote, a timeline and a list of deliverables before work starts. As a rough guide, the contact form's budget choices range from under $499 to $2,000-$2,999, and bigger projects can pick "Let's discuss".
