The Challenge
Illusion Fires is Australia's largest manufacturer and retailer of gas log fireplaces, selling Australian-made inbuilt and freestanding gas fires factory direct, with a 10-year firebox warranty and showrooms around the country. The Illusion Fires Shopify store has to turn a showroom product into an online purchase.
Fireplaces are emotional, visual products. Buyers want to see the flames moving, the glass and the finish in a real room before they spend thousands of dollars. That means HD product video, galleries and before-and-after comparisons, all of which can slow a store down if they are not handled carefully.
The store also runs campaign offers, such as heavily discounted Luminar inbuilt fires and builder and renovator sales, plus showroom locators, service enquiries and collections only available in NSW. It all needs to stay fast and reliable, especially through the winter peak when demand is highest.
The Solution
The store runs on Shopify with custom Liquid sections built for video-heavy product storytelling, and I maintain it year round. The challenge was to show the product properly while keeping the store quick.
Key pieces include:
- Video hero blocks that show gas log fires in action without blocking the page from loading
- Offer landing pages and sale sections for campaigns such as the Luminar range
- Location content for showrooms, including the store locator and service information
- Collection structures for inbuilt, freestanding and electric fireplaces, including NSW-only ranges
Each section is tuned to stay quick despite the media, with video loaded in a way that keeps the rest of the page responsive. Supporting content such as the before-and-after slider, gallery, installation videos and FAQs helps buyers move from inspiration to purchase.
I keep the store healthy through the busy winter season and the quieter months. The key results show the outcome: 99.9% uptime through winter peaks, 0 checkout failures, more than 10 custom Liquid sections and 100% mobile-ready pages.
Australian-made gas log fires sold online and in 9 showrooms
Illusion Fires manufactures its fireplaces in Australia and sells them factory direct. Customers can visit one of 9 showrooms to talk with a design consultant, or shop online with fast delivery.
The range covers inbuilt gas fires in the Luminar, Azura, Matrix, Mystique and Realistic collections, freestanding gas fires, Velisse Aura electric fireplaces and spare parts. Some collections are only available in NSW, which the navigation makes clear.
The website has to support both buying paths. Some customers buy online after watching product videos and reading the specs. Others use the site to research, then visit a showroom. Clear trust signals on the homepage, such as Australian made, fast delivery, the 10-year warranty and showroom locations, help both groups feel confident.
Video hero sections that show the flame without slowing the store
A still photo cannot show what makes a gas log fire appealing: the movement of the flames. Custom Liquid video sections bring that to the homepage and product content, letting buyers see the fire in action.
Video is heavy, so these sections are built carefully. Media loads in a way that does not hold up the rest of the page, so text, navigation and products stay usable while the video starts. Poster images give an immediate visual on slower connections.
These choices protect responsiveness, which Google measures through metrics such as Interaction to Next Paint. My guide to passing INP and Core Web Vitals explains why that matters. The result is a store that feels rich and visual without the usual penalty in load time.
Offer landing pages for the Luminar range and seasonal sales
Campaigns are an important part of how Illusion Fires sells. The homepage has featured a builder and renovator sale, and the best sellers section highlights the Luminar inbuilt range, from the Luminar 1000 through to the Luminar 6000, with sale and regular prices shown side by side.
Custom Liquid sections make these campaigns easy to run. The team can launch an offer landing page, update a promotional banner or feature a product range without development work. Each section follows the store's design and stays fast.
Clear offers also help buyers compare. Seeing the full Luminar range in one place, with consistent pricing presentation, makes it easier to choose the right size for a room and move straight to purchase.
Showroom locator, service enquiries and installation resources
Many fireplace buyers still want to visit a showroom before they decide. Location content and the store locator make it easy to find the nearest one, and the homepage invites visitors to talk with a design consultant.
After the sale, the site keeps supporting customers. The service department section explains that qualified technicians handle warranty and maintenance work using genuine parts, with a service enquiry form for bookings. The Resources menu includes troubleshooting guides, installation videos, FAQs and finance options.
This content answers common questions, such as which gas types the fires use and whether installation is included, before customers need to call. It also links to Ultimate Fires for buyers who want a wood heater.
Winter-ready maintenance and SEO for the Illusion Fires Shopify store
Demand for gas fires spikes as the weather cools, so the store has to be at its best in winter. I maintain it year round, testing updates and monitoring performance so it stays reliable when traffic peaks. The store achieved 99.9% uptime through winter peaks with 0 checkout failures.
On the SEO side, I use Semrush data to guide content and on-page structure for searches around gas fireplaces and gas log fires. For another Shopify store with a large catalogue I maintain, see About Space Lighting.
