The Challenge
Waverley Forklifts is an independent, family-owned materials handling company with over 50 years in operation and branches across Australia. The Waverley Forklifts WordPress website had to carry that half-century reputation while presenting the business as modern, responsive and easy to deal with.
The complexity is real. There are four business lines, forklift hire, equipment sales, service and repairs, and machinery transport, and branches in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Darwin and Townsville. A warehouse manager needing a short-term hire in Perth, a fleet buyer after used equipment in Sydney and a site manager with a broken-down machine in Melbourne all need different things, fast.
The site had to route each of those enquiries to the right place, help people match the right machine to their load and space, and stay online without interruption for a national operation that runs on uptime.
The Solution
I developed the site on WordPress with Breakdance and structured it by service line. A mega menu splits Equipment Hire into forklifts, specialised equipment and ways to hire, then gives Service and Repairs, Transport, Locations and About their own clear panels, each with short descriptions so visitors know what they will find before they click.
Equipment pages cover LPG and diesel forklifts, battery electric machines, all terrain units and telehandlers, yard tractors and tow tugs, attachments and used equipment, with individual machine pages for specific models. City hire pages target forklift hire in each branch location.
Every branch is listed with its address and phone number, and a single national number handles general enquiries, so contact routing is never a guessing game. I maintain the site continuously, with updates, backups and security hardening keeping a national operation online without interruption or incident.
Waverley Forklifts: a national, independent materials handling business
Waverley Forklifts is headquartered in Mount Waverley and has grown into one of Australia's largest fully independent forklift and transport companies, with a hire fleet in the thousands and a dedicated transport division, WFL Transport. It remains family owned, with the third generation now involved in the business.
Their customers are warehouses, manufacturers, logistics operators, construction sites and busy yards. Some need a forklift tomorrow for a peak period, others want a fixed monthly long-term rental that is fully maintained, and many already own machines that need servicing or moving interstate.
The website needed to respect the brand's history without looking dated. The Since 1974 message and the over fifty years, independently owned story are present, but the emphasis is on practical, modern service: tell us the load and the space, and we will match the machine.
Structuring the site around hire, sales, service and transport
The Waverley Forklifts WordPress website is organised so each business line has a clear home:
- Equipment hire: LPG and diesel forklifts, battery electric, all terrain and telehandlers, yard tractors and tow tugs, attachments, short-term hire and long-term rental
- Sales: used equipment, with inspected ex-fleet machines for sale
- Service and repairs: mobile on-site repairs, workshop repairs and fabrication, scheduled service agreements and emergency breakdown response
- Transport: local and interstate machinery movements on tilt trays, low loaders and custom trailers
Each menu panel includes a one-line description of every link, such as rough terrain machines and telehandlers to 18 metres, which helps visitors choose correctly at a glance. Calls to action match the intent of each section, from Get in Contact for hire to Book a Service and Book a Movement.
Branch pages and contact routing across Australia
National businesses lose leads when customers cannot work out who to call. A Locations panel lists every branch with its address and direct phone number: Melbourne head office in Mount Waverley, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Darwin and Townsville. A single 1300 number and a general hire email handle everything else.
City-specific hire pages, forklift hire Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Darwin and Townsville, give each branch its own search presence and its own landing page for local campaigns.
The service section reinforces this with a direct prompt for urgent jobs: machine down, call the branch nearest your site and a technician gets moving. Clear routing like this shortens response times and makes sure hire, sales, service and transport enquiries land with the right team from the first contact.
Equipment pages that help buyers match the machine
Forklift buyers and hirers think in capacities, fuel types and environments, so the equipment pages are written that way. Counterbalance LPG and diesel forklifts are positioned for indoor and yard work, battery electric covers reach trucks, pallet movers and electric counterbalance, and specialised equipment covers telehandlers and terminal tractors.
Individual machine pages for models from brands like Toyota and Manitou give specific detail for people comparing options, while an attachments page covers jibs, rotators, clamps, slippers and man cages.
The fleet range, from 1.5 to 16 tonne forklifts and telehandlers up to 18 metres, is stated plainly near the hire calls to action. A blog adds industry news and equipment guides, and a careers page supports recruitment across the branches, so the site works for customers and for growth.
Performance and maintenance for a national operation
A large site with mega menus and many equipment pages can easily become slow, so I kept the Breakdance build lean, with optimised images and minimal scripts. Fast pages matter for rankings and for site managers checking options on a phone, as I explain in my Core Web Vitals guide.
I maintain the site continuously: WordPress, Breakdance and plugin updates, backups, uptime monitoring and security hardening, following the process in my WordPress security guide. The result is a 99.9% uptime record, zero security incidents, 24/7 site monitoring and 100% of pages loading clean.
