The Challenge
Tanner Auto Repairs is a neighbourhood mechanic at 119 Cromwell Street, Collingwood, with more than 25 years of experience and a simple promise: all work guaranteed. The Tanner Auto Repairs WordPress website had to carry that trusted, old-school reputation online without losing the personal feel that keeps locals coming back.
The workshop has a loyal following, but new customers no longer find mechanics by walking past. They search Google for car servicing in Collingwood, roadworthy certificates or brake repairs near them, and they choose from whoever appears with clear services, good reviews and a phone number they can tap.
So the site needed to rank for Collingwood car service searches, explain everything from minor services to fleet management, and put the phone number, address and booking page one tap away on any screen. And because the owners would rather be in the workshop than fiddling with a website, it had to stay quietly reliable in the background.
The Solution
I built the site on WordPress with Breakdance, kept it lightweight and local-first, and put the guarantee, street address and click-to-call front and centre. Hero banners introduce Tanner as your local professional automotive repair shop, keeping you safe and happy on the roads, followed by a services grid where every service has its own Learn More page.
The Tanner Difference section explains the workshop's customer-first approach, and dedicated blurbs for Roadworthy Certificates and Fleet Management speak to two high-value audiences: people selling a car and businesses running vehicles. Book Inspection buttons appear throughout and lead to a dedicated booking page, while trading hours, the phone number and a map link sit in the footer of every page.
Google reviews from local drivers, an Instagram feed and a photo gallery round out the trust signals. Ongoing updates, backups and security are handled by me, and the site has run clean and uninterrupted.
About Tanner Auto Repairs, Collingwood's neighbourhood mechanic
Tanner Auto Repairs has been fixing cars in Melbourne's inner north for over 25 years. Customers know the team by name, and reviews regularly mention Dennis, fair pricing and honest advice. The workshop is open Monday to Friday, with Saturday work available by appointment.
Their customers range from inner-city residents with a single car to businesses that need a fleet kept on the road. Many are time-poor and want a mechanic they can trust without shopping around every time.
The website needed to translate that word-of-mouth reputation into something a stranger on Google could feel. Real reviews, the all work guaranteed promise and a clear list of services do that job, while the friendly, plain-spoken copy keeps the neighbourhood character that sets Tanner apart from chain workshops.
Service pages for car servicing, roadworthies and fleet work in Collingwood
Each core service has its own page so it can answer specific questions and rank for its own search. The services covered include:
- Minor and major car servicing
- Roadworthy certificates
- Brakes
- Tyre service and repairs
- Transmission service and repairs
- Computer diagnostics
- Fleet management
Roadworthy certificates and fleet management get extra prominence on the homepage because they bring in two valuable types of customer. A seller needs a roadworthy fast, and a business with a fleet wants a reliable partner that keeps vehicles in working order with minimal downtime.
Every service page ends with a Book Inspection or Contact Us call to action, so a visitor who has found the answer they needed can take the next step straight away.
Click-to-call, Book Inspection and trading hours up front
Most people looking for a mechanic are on their phone, often with a car that is making a worrying noise. The design is built around that reality. The phone number is a tap-to-call link, the street address opens in Google Maps, and Book Inspection buttons repeat down every page.
Trading hours sit in the footer so nobody has to guess whether the workshop is open. A gallery section, titled See What We've Been Up To, shows real jobs in the workshop, and an Instagram feed keeps the site feeling current without anyone having to update it manually.
The layout is clean and uncluttered, with large buttons and short paragraphs that work on small screens. The goal is simple: make it effortless for a new customer to call, book or find the workshop.
Local SEO for Collingwood car service searches
Mechanics live and die on local search, so the Tanner Auto Repairs WordPress website is structured to show Google exactly what the workshop does and where. The Collingwood address appears consistently across the site, service pages target specific searches such as roadworthy certificates and transmission repairs, and Google reviews reinforce the business's reputation on the page itself.
A Blog gives the workshop a place to publish helpful car care content, and a sitemap keeps every page easy for search engines to crawl. Clear, direct answers on service pages also help the site appear in AI-generated search results.
The technical foundations matter just as much: fast loading, mobile-friendly layouts and clean heading structure. I explain the full approach in my local SEO playbook for mechanics and tradies.
Keeping the workshop's website in tune
I look after the Tanner Auto Repairs website on an ongoing basis. WordPress core, Breakdance and plugins are updated regularly, backups run on schedule, security hardening is kept current, and uptime is monitored 24/7.
The results: 99.9% uptime, zero security incidents and every page loading clean. Like a well-serviced car, the site just works, and the team at Tanner never has to think about it.
