The Challenge
DUSC Weddings is the wedding arm of DUSC, a Melbourne studio creating digital wedding films, nostalgic Super 8 films and photography for couples who want their day told like cinema. The DUSC Weddings website had to carry that emotion and get engaged couples in touch.
Couples shortlist wedding filmmakers on feeling. They watch a few seconds of footage, scroll a handful of photos and decide whether a studio understands what they want. If a page is slow or a film stutters, the moment is lost.
The site needed to make Super 8 and digital film offerings feel distinct and irresistible, explain what genuine vintage film adds to a wedding, load film-heavy pages fast on phones, and get couples to the contact form while the feeling is still fresh. As the person who looks after the site, my brief was to keep all of that working smoothly over time.
The Solution
The site is a gallery-and-film-led build with dedicated pages for Digital Films, Super 8 and Photography, plus About and Contact. The homepage introduces all three with large visual tiles and a short story about why the studio does this work: preserving how the day felt, not just what happened.
The Super 8 page explains the offer clearly. It is genuine vintage film, shot on analogue cameras and hand-developed, available on its own or blended with digital coverage, with the result described as warm, grainy and full of character. That gives couples a reason to choose DUSC over studios that only shoot digital.
My role is ongoing care using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I keep the site light despite the media weight, with optimised images and video that loads only when needed, lean custom styling and a responsive layout tested on phones. The contact form and details, including Melbourne base and travel availability, stay easy to reach.
Under my ongoing care it stays fast, secure and always ready for engagement season.
Melbourne wedding films for couples who want cinema
DUSC has filmed weddings for over a decade, and its approach is about honesty and artistry: the in-between moments, the people and the atmosphere, not just a highlights reel. The studio is based in Melbourne, works across Victoria and offers travel for weddings further afield.
Its couples are usually planning a year or more ahead, collecting inspiration on Instagram and Pinterest and comparing a shortlist of filmmakers. Many are drawn to analogue film and want something that feels timeless rather than trendy.
The website's role is to be the studio's showreel and first conversation. It needs to feel calm, cinematic and personal, then make it effortless to send an enquiry once a couple has fallen for the work.
Digital films, Super 8 and photography pages on the DUSC Weddings website
The DUSC Weddings website separates its three offers so couples can explore what interests them most.
- Digital Films: modern wedding films with crisp clarity, full coverage and sound.
- Super 8: genuine vintage film captured on analogue cameras and hand-developed, available alone or blended with digital.
- Photography: still images that match the same honest, artful style.
Each page leads with visuals and keeps text short, then points to the contact form. The Super 8 page explains how digital and analogue complement each other, which helps couples understand the value of adding film to their package rather than seeing it as a gimmick.
Keeping film-heavy pages fast with HTML, CSS and JavaScript
Video and large photography are the heaviest assets a website can carry, and wedding studios need lots of both. The approach I use is simple: compressed, correctly sized images, video that only loads when a visitor chooses to play it, and lean custom CSS and JavaScript instead of heavy add-ons.
That keeps first loads quick on mobile, where most couples browse, and avoids the stutter that breaks the mood of a film.
Responsive layouts are checked on a range of screen sizes so galleries and films look right on phones, tablets and desktops. If you want the technical detail, my guide to Core Web Vitals and a perfect Lighthouse score covers the same techniques.
A contact path for engaged couples
The contact page is short and warm: interested in working together, fill out some info and the team will be in touch. Location, travel availability, email and phone appear alongside, so couples can choose how they reach out.
Links to the contact page appear on every main page, so a couple who has just watched a Super 8 film can enquire immediately.
Keeping that path working is a core part of my maintenance routine. Forms are tested after updates, and any change to layout or content is checked on mobile, because a missed enquiry from an engaged couple is a missed booking for the season.
Ongoing care through engagement season
Engagement season brings a wave of couples researching filmmakers, so the site has to be ready. I provide ongoing care: monitoring, performance checks, content updates and front-end fixes across HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
The results row reflects that work: a 99.9% uptime record, zero security incidents, 24/7 monitoring and every page loading clean.
DUSC's commercial studio site, which I also look after, is covered in my DUSC Studio case study.
