The Challenge
Wholesale buyers do not browse like consumers, they hunt. The Complete Food Services WordPress website had to serve chefs, cafe owners and purchasing managers who need to confirm a specific line is stocked, from a particular pasta to pizzeria flour or foil containers, and then get on with service.
Complete Food Services is a family-owned, independent Melbourne distributor that has supplied cafes, restaurants, hotels and retail food outlets since 1991. Its range is deep: dry store, condiments, dairy and deli, an exclusive Kontessa line, pizzeria essentials, imported alcohol, cleaning and packaging, and dozens of imported specialty brands.
The challenge was to organise that full range into scannable categories with anchor-level navigation, so finding a specific dry store line takes seconds, not minutes, while also introducing new businesses to the company and moving existing customers into online ordering.
The Solution
I developed the site on WordPress with Breakdance with a category-and-anchor range structure that mirrors how kitchens actually order. A large Our Range menu lists every major category with its sub-lines, such as pasta, rice, flour, oils and truffle products under Dry Store, so a chef can jump straight to the right section of a range page.
Import and specialty brands each have their own page, and product catalogues are available as PDF downloads, including a dedicated range for pizzaiolos. Order Online and Order Seafood buttons in the header send existing customers straight to ordering, while a new customer enquiry form captures business type, product interests and ordering frequency.
Supporting landing pages target wholesale searches like Italian food distributors and wholesale mozzarella. I keep the catalogue site updated, backed up and hardened, and it has served Melbourne's food trade without an outage or breach.
Complete Food Services and the commercial kitchens it supplies
Complete Food Services started with a single cash van selling to pizza shops and restaurants, and has grown into one of Australia's largest independent food service distributors. It is proudly family owned, importing, distributing and manufacturing pantry staples and specialty products for everyone from pizza bars to cruise ships.
The customers are busy professionals. Head chefs check whether a specific product is available, cafe owners compare suppliers, and purchasing managers want reliability, competitive pricing and no lock-in contracts.
The website needed to give each of them what they came for without friction. Existing customers want to order quickly, new businesses want to understand the range and the company behind it, and everyone wants to confirm stock lines fast. Next-day delivery and 30 years of trust with Melbourne kitchens are the reasons they stay.
A category-and-anchor range built for chefs who hunt
The Complete Food Services WordPress website organises the full range the way a kitchen thinks about it:
- Dry store: pasta, rice, flour, tomato products, vinegar, oils, truffle products and biscuits
- Condiments: mayonnaise and aioli, sauces, mustards, jams, herbs and spices
- Dairy and deli: antipasto, cheese, salami, prosciutto, mozzarella and dips
- Kontessa: the exclusive house range
- Pizzeria: tomatoes, flours, mozzarella, olives and pizza boxes
- Imported alcohol, plus cleaning and packaging
Every sub-line in the menu links to an anchor on its category page, so clicking Rice drops the visitor straight onto rice rather than the top of a long page. A View All link under each category gives the full overview for buyers who prefer to browse.
Import brand pages and downloadable product catalogues
Exclusive and imported brands are a major point of difference, so they get their own showcase. An Import and Special Goods section links to individual pages for brands such as Pasta Irollo, Molini Pizzuti, Biraghi, Vignola, Gran De Luca, Pinsami, Maletti, Melchiorri, Valle Verde and Pallini.
On the homepage, a scrolling World Class Brands carousel presents these lines visually, each with a Learn More link. A European Foods Wholesaler section explains the company's sourcing approach for buyers looking for premium Euro products at wholesale prices.
For buyers who like to plan orders offline, a Product Catalogues page offers PDF downloads of the full range and a dedicated pizzaiolos range imported from Italy. These downloads are often what a new restaurant owner shares with their head chef before opening an account.
Wholesale search landing pages and lightweight performance
Many new customers find a supplier through search, so the site includes focused landing pages for wholesale terms, including European food wholesalers, Italian food distributors, seafood wholesale in Melbourne, pizza flour wholesale, wholesale cheese suppliers, wholesale mozzarella, olives and bulk food. Each one connects a specific search to the relevant part of the range and the enquiry form.
The homepage enquiry form asks the questions sales reps need: business name, business type, products of interest and estimated ordering frequency, which makes follow-up faster and better targeted.
Category pages carry a lot of content, so I kept the Breakdance build lean, with optimised images and minimal scripts. Fast pages matter for busy buyers on phones, a topic I cover in my Core Web Vitals guide.
Keeping a catalogue site online for Melbourne's food trade
Restaurants order around service times, early mornings and late nights, so the website and its links to online ordering must be available whenever a chef needs them. I maintain the site continuously: WordPress, Breakdance and plugin updates, backups, uptime monitoring and security hardening, plus checks that menus, anchors and catalogue downloads all work after every change.
The site holds a 99.9% uptime record, zero security incidents, 24/7 site monitoring and 100% of pages loading clean, and it has served Melbourne's food trade without an outage or breach.
