The Challenge
ALV Security Supplies distributes intercom, CCTV and access control hardware to Australian trade, including the full Urmet range, IP cameras and NVRs, and Golmar access control. It sells to installers, integrators, electricians and builders rather than homeowners, so the ALV Security Supplies B2B website had to work like a trade counter, not a consumer shop.
That created three problems to solve. The catalogue is deeply technical, with intercom systems split by technology, cameras by resolution and form factor, and hundreds of part numbers. Brand distribution rights needed to be communicated clearly, because they are a key reason trade buyers choose a supplier. And the trade-account model had to be gated without frustrating legitimate buyers who simply want to check a part or start an application.
The Solution
I built the site on WordPress with Breakdance around a product-category architecture designed for trade browsing. The Shop Products menu splits into Intercom, CCTV, Access Control and Spare Parts, then drills down by system and component, from Urmet 2Voice and IPerCom door stations to PoE NVRs, PTZ cameras, maglocks and relays.
Brand authority sections present ALV's core ranges, with the full Urmet range from legacy parts through to IPerCom IP systems and Golmar access control, alongside a downloadable product booklet. Product cards show part numbers and a "Trade price available with log in" note, with Trades Account and Trade Login links in the header. Solutions pages for small and large apartment complexes, residential and commercial projects, plus a Projects page and system packages, help specifiers think in systems rather than parts.
I maintain the site to security-industry standards: hardened, monitored and always in stock.
Trade distribution for intercom, CCTV and access control
ALV describes itself as premium security supply for Australian trade: intercom, CCTV and access control hardware for residential, multi-residential and commercial projects, with distribution rights to world-leading brands supplied direct to approved trade accounts. The About page adds the detail trade buyers care about, with a focus on commercial-grade products, complete system solutions and compatibility across CCTV, alarms, intercoms and access control.
The audience is electricians, builders, developers and security professionals who need reliable, scalable systems without guesswork. They know what they are looking for and want to find it fast, check the part number and move on. Everything about the site, from the menu depth to the product card layout, is designed for that kind of focused, repeat visit rather than casual browsing.
A catalogue architecture built around systems and part numbers
The product menu mirrors how installers think about a job:
- Intercom: door stations, monitors, handsets, power supplies, spare parts, complete kits and licences, split by 2Voice, IPerCom, 2-Wire and legacy systems
- CCTV: PoE, non-PoE and monitor-equipped NVRs, and cameras by 6MP, 8MP, turret, bullet, PTZ, panoramic and active deterrence
- Access Control: controllers, readers, credentials, licences, cabinets and door locks such as strikes, maglocks, exit buttons and breakglasses
- Spare Parts: power supplies, cables, connectors, batteries and UPS systems, relays and timers
Product names carry the full model number and description, such as the Urmet 1761/31 VOG7 touchscreen video door phone for IP systems, so an installer searching by part number lands on the right item. A header product search and homepage category tiles give two more ways in.
Trade accounts, login-gated pricing and enquiry paths
ALV's commercial model depends on approved trade accounts, so the site has to protect trade pricing while still being useful to anyone who lands on it. Products are open to browse, with descriptions and part numbers visible, but pricing shows "Trade price available with log in". That keeps the catalogue indexable and shareable while reserving commercial terms for approved buyers.
The application path is prominent without being pushy. The hero carries an Apply for Trades Account button, the header links to Trades Account and Trade Login, and product cards offer an Enquire Now option for buyers who want to talk before they apply. A Download Product Booklet link on the Urmet spotlight gives specifiers something to take into a design meeting. Legitimate buyers are never blocked from information, only from pricing they have not yet been approved to see.
Solutions pages, system packages and projects for specifiers
Many trade buyers are not just buying parts, they are specifying a whole system for a building. The Solutions menu covers small apartment complexes, large apartment complexes, residential and commercial projects, and a Projects page shows real installations by location. A System Packages section on the homepage, under the line "We've already done the hard work", helps buyers assemble a residential or commercial package rather than piecing it together part by part.
The Urmet IP-based intercom platform gets its own spotlight, explaining network-based video intercom for modern multi-residential and commercial developments, with integration into access control and building management systems. Content like this does double duty: it helps a builder choose the right platform, and it gives search engines and AI assistants clear, authoritative information about the products ALV distributes.
Hardened maintenance for the ALV Security Supplies B2B website
A security supplier with an insecure website would be a contradiction, so I maintain ALV's site to a high standard: WordPress, Breakdance and plugin updates applied promptly, security hardening around accounts and login, regular backups and 24/7 monitoring. The result is a 99.9% uptime record, zero security incidents and every page loading clean. My article on WordPress plugin vulnerabilities explains why prompt patching matters so much on sites with customer accounts.
