The Challenge
AH Bricks n Pavers makes architectural handmade bricks and pavers in Melbourne, with exposure grade products suited to coastal conditions and custom geometry such as curves, transitions and brick tiles. Its buyers are architects, designers and builders who specify materials long before anything is laid. The AH Bricks n Pavers website had to earn a place in those specifications.
That is a demanding audience. Architects want aesthetic quality and evidence of technical performance in equal measure: finishes and blends, EXP durability testing, data sheets, laying and cleaning guidance. Builders want to know about availability, turnaround and how the product behaves on site. The site had to present material control and customisation credibly enough to be written into a specification, while still looking like a brand designers want to work with.
The Solution
I built the site on WordPress with Breakdance around a specification-grade structure. The navigation runs Product, Product Range, Eco-Friendly, Specifications, Projects and Contact, mirroring the order in which an architect evaluates a material: what it is, what range is available, how it performs, where it has been used and how to get samples.
The homepage opens with the new collection, defined by an organic face profile and three solid colours that can be used individually or blended, and invites visitors to arrange a presentation with samples. A Why work with us section states the three core advantages: made in Melbourne with full control over material, geometry and finish; exposure grade suitable for severe and coastal environments; and custom lengths, curves, transitions and brick tiles resolved at design stage rather than on site.
As developer and site manager, I maintain the site with the same consistency AH Bricks promises from sample to site.
Architectural handmade bricks for architects, builders and designers
AH Bricks n Pavers sits at the intersection of craft and construction. Its bricks are produced in Melbourne, which gives the business full control over material, geometry and finish and the ability to keep products consistent from the first sample to the final delivery. That control is also what makes customisation possible: custom lengths, heights, depths, curves, transitions, brick tiles and special shapes.
The site speaks to that audience in their language. Copy focuses on outcomes that matter to specifiers, such as "More certainty. Faster construction times. Better aesthetic outcomes.", rather than generic sales claims. Testimonials from builders and developers, including Jafari Property Group and All Brick and Block, describe the quality, availability and service, and the time saved on cutting by ordering bricks in different lengths and sizes.
A product range built for specification
Every product is presented the way an architect would reference it, by its code and finish. The homepage Our Products grid features ranges such as 028 Lightly Blended, 011 Unblended, Berg 02 LB Blended, 019 S Blended, 020 and Berg 01 W2, with notes on availability in textured and smooth finishes. The Latest Projects section shows the same products in built form, from 011 T Blended to 028 LB Blended, so a designer can see how a blend reads on a real facade.
Separating Product and Product Range in the navigation lets the site tell the story of the new collection while still giving access to the full catalogue. Large, high-quality imagery carries most of the weight on these pages, because for a handmade brick the texture and colour variation are the product.
A specifications library: data sheets, EXP testing and cleaning guides
The Specifications page is where AH Bricks earns its place in a specification. It brings together the technical resources an architect or builder needs:
- The AHBP technical data sheet
- Mortar and bricklaying guidance
- Exposure grade testing information
- Detailed cleaning instructions for bricklayers and brick cleaners
The cleaning guidance shows the depth involved. It explains how bricklayers should keep the face clean while laying, why mortar must harden for at least seven days before pressure cleaning, and the pressure and volume limits that protect the brick face. That kind of practical content reduces problems on site, protects the product's reputation and gives the site real technical authority. An Eco-Friendly page with the environmental statement covers the sustainability questions that increasingly appear in project briefs.
Technical SEO and image performance for a materials brand
An image-led site for architects has to look beautiful without loading slowly. I kept the Breakdance build lean, with layouts that stay responsive from a large studio monitor down to a phone on site. A clean heading structure, descriptive page titles such as Architectural Handmade Bricks and Pavers, and internal links between products, projects and specifications help search engines understand how the content fits together.
Search terms in this niche are specific: handmade bricks in Melbourne, exposure grade bricks, custom brick shapes and architectural pavers. I use Semrush to keep an eye on the terms that matter and make sure page copy addresses them naturally rather than through stuffing. My guide to Core Web Vitals explains why speed matters as much for a design-focused site as it does for an online store.
Ongoing management of the AH Bricks n Pavers website
As developer and site manager, I look after the site continuously. WordPress, Breakdance and plugin updates are applied carefully, backups run regularly, security is hardened and the site is monitored 24/7. That has delivered a 99.9% uptime record, zero security incidents and every page loading clean. When new projects or products are added, I make sure they slot into the existing structure so the site stays as consistent as the bricks themselves.
