## The challenge

Rixon Hairdressing is a long-established salon on Moorabool Street in central Geelong, known for colour, cutting and a family feel. The Rixon Hairdressing WordPress website does double duty: it books salon clients and it moves retail promotions such as the December Kerastase gift pack and RIXON gift card offers.

Those two jobs pull in different directions. Service pages need to explain colour correction, balayage or foils clearly enough that a new client feels confident booking. Promotions change with the seasons and need to be swapped quickly without a developer rebuilding the homepage each time.

Gifting peaks add pressure. When customers buy gift cards online in December, the path has to work flawlessly on a phone, and the salon's $25 new client offer, booking links and contact details all need to stay visible without cluttering the page.

## The solution

I built the site on WordPress with Breakdance and designed a promo banner system the salon can refresh each season. The homepage hero carries the current promotion, for example 20% off the Kerastase gift pack in salon and 15% off RIXON gift cards online, with the $25 new client offer and Book Now button always in view.

Every service has a dedicated page: colour correction, roots and ends colour, gloss colour package, colour combo package, full and half head foils and highlights, balayage and design cutting, plus a full salon menu. A gallery, Team Rixon page, blog, salon policies and refer-a-friend page round out the structure.

Booking and gift card buttons hand off to the salon's existing Phorest booking and gift card pages, so online gift card purchases run through the same system the salon uses every day. A promotions page releases in-store codes by email.

I keep the site styled, patched, secured and backed up, with a salon finish all year.

## A Geelong hair salon selling both the chair and the retail shelf

Rixon Hairdressing has been part of Geelong for decades, with a strong base of loyal clients and hundreds of Google reviews praising the stylists by name. Opening hours run Tuesday to Saturday, with a late night on Wednesday.

The audience includes regulars who already know their stylist, new clients comparing Geelong salons, and gift buyers who want a voucher for someone else. Each group needs something different from the website.

Regulars want to book quickly. New clients want to understand services, see results and feel welcome. Gift buyers want a simple path to buy online. The site had to serve all three while keeping the salon's warm, professional personality front and centre.

## Seasonal promotions on the Rixon Hairdressing WordPress website

Promotions are part of Rixon's business rhythm, so they needed a dedicated, reusable home rather than one-off homepage edits.

- **Promo banner system:** a Breakdance section on the homepage where the salon can swap the headline offer, supporting copy and button each season.
- **New client offer:** the $25 new client offer is linked from the top bar and hero so first-time visitors always see it.
- **Promotions page:** a protected page that releases in-store codes by email, keeping offers exclusive to subscribers.

Because the banner layout stays fixed and only the content changes, December gift promotions can go live in minutes and still look polished on every screen size.

## Service pages for colour, balayage and cutting in Geelong

Colour services are the salon's specialty and also the hardest to explain, so each one has its own page. Colour correction, roots and ends colour, gloss and colour combo packages, foils and highlights, and balayage are described in plain language, with what to expect and a clear booking button.

The homepage summarises the salon's approach in three steps, consult, create and educate, which reassures nervous first-time clients. A styles gallery provides inspiration, and Team Rixon introduces the stylists clients read about in reviews.

Every service page links back to booking, and the address, phone number and hours appear in the header and footer for visitors who prefer to call before committing.

## Online gift cards, booking links and local SEO

The booking and gift card buttons connect to the salon's Phorest pages, so clients book appointments and buy RIXON gift cards in the same system the front desk already uses. That keeps availability accurate and avoids double handling during the busy gifting season.

For search, each service page targets the terms Geelong clients use, such as balayage, colour correction and hairdresser in Geelong, guided by keyword research in Semrush. Clean headings, descriptive titles and consistent contact details support local rankings.

Clear, factual service descriptions also help with newer search experiences. I explain how small businesses stay visible in [Google AI Mode and AI Overviews](https://amvprosox.com/blog/google-ai-mode-seo-small-business-2026).

## Salon-finish maintenance all year round

A salon website has to look polished every day, especially when a promotion is live. As developer and site manager, I handle Rixon's ongoing maintenance: WordPress, Breakdance and plugin updates, 24/7 uptime monitoring, security hardening and scheduled backups.

The results row shows the outcome: a 99.9% uptime record, zero security incidents and every page loading clean. Promotion swaps and new gallery images are checked on mobile before they go live.
